The Outer Banks-Travel Tips and Recommendations from a Frequent Visitor

My parents have been vacationing in the Outer Banks for over twenty years now; I’ve been going with them all twenty-one years of my life! It is one of my favorite places on this earth. It’s so beautiful and peaceful. Due to over two decades of my own travel there I’d consider myself someone with enough knowledge to give good advice. Of course I haven’t been to every single restaurant or stayed in every town so I’m not claiming to have complete knowledge of the Outer Banks, but I hope my advice will help anyone considering a vacation there!

My first piece of advice is…

Think about what area you are staying in.

The main portion of the Outer Banks runs along Croatan Highway. The northern portion, (Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla) runs along Duck Rd. The roads converge between Southern Shores and Kitty Hawk. The northern portion mentioned above is more family friendly and contains larger houses, best for large family groups. We have stayed in the Currituck Club neighborhood of Corolla before and it is nice but sound side, meaning it is located across the road from the beach. But this neighborhood has a trolley that transports vacationers to the beach access. We have also stayed in Duck which is personally my favorite location.
